Analysis and Cost

The following table sets out the prices of the analyses carried out in the laboratory.

Sample preparation

In general, users will take care of the preparation of their own samples. If you request the preparation of the samples by our staff, this service is subject to the availability of technical staff at that time, and you can request it by filling out the corresponding "services request" form (below).

Protocols:

Processing feathers samples for isotopic analysis

Lipids extraction in animal tissues for analysis of C and N

Collagen extracction for isotopic analysis

Processing blood samples for isotopic analysis of C and N

Processing plant tissues for isotopic analysis of C and N

Extraction of OM from sediments for analysis of organic C and N

Eliminate OM from carbonates for isotopic analysis

Request for Analysis

To request for analysis and preparation of samples (if that's the case) you have to download and complete the following Services Request:

formulario and send it to lie@ebd.csic.es.

We also recommend you to explain us a little more about the project for which you are undertaking isotope analyses, using this form: formulario

Once the samples are ready for the analyses you have to fill one of these templates (as appropriate) and send it to the laboratory as indicated in the instructions included in the template.

Booking Equipment

The use of equipment intended for preparing samples (accurate scales, freeze-dryer, heat cabinet, exhaust hood and ball mill) must be booked in advance. To do that, please contact the technical staff.

Booking slots will initially be a maximum of three consecutive hours per device.

If you are not going to use the device, the booking must be cancelled 24 hrs. in advance, otherwise penalties of use are incurred.

If you are booking outside working hours (after 18.00, on weekends or holidays), you will need prior authorisation from the direction of the institute in order to access it.

Safety Protocols

- Laboratory Operating Rules pdf

- Laboratory Safety Protocol pdf

The LIE is a laboratory that can be freely used by all station workers who need to. To access it, all that is entailed by the laboratory safety protocol must be followed, and the following documents filled in as required:

-Laboratory access application: pdf

- Occupational risk report: pdf

Lines of pure gases necessary for isotopic analysis are installed in the laboratory. Some of these gases are toxic and very dangerous, therefore it is important that you get to know their Safety Instruction Sheets (SIS):

He (FDS) Ar (FDS) H2 (FDS)

N2 (FDS)

O2 (FDS) CO (FDS) CO2 (FDS)

SO2 (FDS)

Here you can see the Safety Instruction Sheets for the various chemicals that you may find in the laboratory:

Methanol

Ethanol

Acetone

Formic Acid

Hydrogen Peroxide

Trichloromethane

Potassium Hydrogen Sulfate

Hydrochloric Acid

Magnesium Oxide

Silica Gel

Sodium Chloride

Devarda's Alloy
